Comparing Ocho Rios or Negril for Vacation
Proximity to the Airport
Ocho Rios is your best bet if you’re looking for a destination close to the airport. The Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay is just a short drive from Ocho Rios. For those flying into Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport, Negril is the better choice. However, both destinations are about a two-hour drive from the airport.
Beaches
Both destinations have beautiful beaches! Negril’s Seven Mile Beach is world-famous and one of Jamaica’s longest stretches of sand. The beach is lined with resorts, restaurants, and bars. Ocho Rios also has lovely beaches like Turtle Beach and James Bond Beach. However, Negril’s beaches are more developed than those in Ocho Rios. If you’re looking for more of a secluded beach experience, Ocho Rios is the better choice. However, if you want more of a party atmosphere, then Negril is the way to go!
Family Vacations

From zip-lining, exploring blue mineral springs, and even rum tours, you’ll find plenty of ways to stay busy in Negril. Ocho Rios also has several great excursions like rafting on the Martha Brae River and visiting the famous Dunn’s River Falls. Overall, both Negril and Ocho Rios offer plenty of activities to enjoy on your Jamaican vacation!
